Five Great Stress Busters

Stress is part of everyone's lives;

be sure to give yourself an opportunity

 to wind down and relax after a hectic week.

Sometimes our anxieties and stresses get the better of us. It seems like there is no solution. We juggle jobs, kids, social lives, tough times; and there's no end in sight. Here are some great ways to take care of yourself and rejuvenate.

1. Don't forget about "me" time. Take some time, and do something you love to do. Whether it's a bubble bath, catching up on some reading or listening to music, it doesn't matter; it's all about having some time to yourself to catch your breath and unwind after a busy week. Make it a priority for yourself.

2. Cut back on the caffeine. Coffee-junkies around the world are gasping. If your coffee is something that you can't do without, try substituting the late day caffeine buzz with another warm beverage (non-caffeinated of course). Getting rid of the late day coffee will help you unwind and ready to get some good night's sleep.

3. Which brings us to our next point. Get a good night's sleep. An hour before bed, remove the things that stimulate your brain and keep you awake, such as shutting off the computer, television, music or bright lights. Try unwinding with a book or something that's more relaxing and makes you want to crawl into bed and get comfy.

4. If your stress and anxiety is really a concern to you and your well-being look into acupuncture. Through a treatment, the multi-channeled energies within the body become stimulatd. This causes the body's natural healing processes to start to work. It's a basic principle that helps you balance your body against the effects of tension and stress.

5. Look into herbal based stress relief products. Consult your doctor prior to starting on an herbal supplement as some can cause interference with your regular prescription medications. B-complex vitamins are used to reduce anxiety. Herbal teas offer a great assortment of benefits, while St. John's Wort is commonly used as an antidepressant, boosting energy levels and supporting the nervous system. Valerian is another common herb, used frequently to promote sleep and relax the nervous system.

Being pro-active before stress and tension takes it long-term toll on your body can be very beneficial. Remember the old adage. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Don't wait for stress to take you prisoner, it's time to lighten your mind, body and soul.
