Social media site are a great way to connect and keep in touch when you're dating someone. Supporting each other with a simple click or a chat online can bring many couples closer.
But what happens when you decide to go your separate ways. Un-following and un-friending seems way too juvenile for a couple of adults. According to recent studies, 48% of the 30,000 polled said they look at their ex's Facebook or social networking site profiles far too often.
So what's the properly etiquette following a breakup? Sorting through your confusing thoughts can be as baffling or frustrating as the breakup was. Do you un-friend your ex on Facebook so that you aren't troubled by the status updates and wall posts? Or do you act like an adult and simply just limit the profile views and move on?
The key is to make a conscious effort to set boundaries for yourself. If your breakup is recent then you can hide him from your newsfeed while you come to an inner reconciliation of what happened with the relationship. Once you are on a more even keel, you can allow yourself once again to interact on an occasional basis. If you're the type of person who can truly be happy for your ex, then there is no reason to delete their friend status. You can continue to support each other in your separate lives provided there are boundaries that are not stepped over. If their updates cause you undue stress, frustration, feelings of rejection then limit the profile.
